Marie VandewalleHelmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ), Germany Student in 2005, Tutor in 2012, 2014 & 2015, Convener since 2016 "The summer school is my personal barometer, my check on the ‘wind of change’ needed for our planet. I choose my carrier, because I wanted somehow to contribute to this wind of change, but it is quite hard to keep your level of optimism in this world, when you see how we treat our planet and how money, power or individualism are the number ones priority for too many people. This summer school is my yearly booster of positivism. All the participants and speakers every year are surprising me by their way of thinking, their out of the box ideas, their critical views on our world….it is like renewing my bag of good reasons of going on what I am doing." |

Uta FritschEURAC Research Project, Italy Tutor: 2006 - 2008, Coordinating tutor: 2009 - 2011, Co-coordinating tutor since 2013, Convener since 2017 "The summer school to me is a perfect setting for mutual learning for all: organizers, lecturers and participants. It creates an atmosphere of faith and respect that allows for questioning in open discussions where hierarchies are obsolete. The lectures provide a deep understanding on the current state of our planet in terms of its biodiversity and sustainability and the methods. The different important aspects are highlighted in the research presented by excellent and passionate speakers. I understand the working groups as a playground to bring down the science of the talks to a concrete research question in the area and experience what it is like to work in an intercultural and interdisciplinary team. It is a training situation that challenges the team as well as the participants. The remote and beautiful place of Peyresq is the perfect setting for me to get to the bottom of my work and foster a new ideas and views. Moreover the summer school is an opportunity to expand my professional network by meeting peers and new friends." |

Nicolas DendonckerUniversity of Namur, Belgium Student in 2005, Tutor: 2008-2017, convener since 2018 (2018 will be Nico's 10th edition) "To me, the Peyresq Summer School is the highlight of my scientific year. It is like a scouts camp for scientists! Something you look forward to as soon as the current edition finishes. Some magical place where you are sure to meet old friends and other like minded people who will become your new friends. It means being able to express your love of nature and share it with your peers. It is indeed a - growing - network for life." |
