Martin Sharman retires

Martin Sharman, Policy Officer responsible for biodiversity and ecosystems at the European Commission's DG Research & Innovation, retires at the end of November 2012.

Martin has had an enormous impact on biodiversity research in general. He has had a major impact on the biodiversity themes in all the European Commission Framework Programmes (funding mechanisms). A lot of projects in the field of biodiversity have been impacted by him in a very significant way. His critical thinking has inspired a broad research community as well as several cohorts of young researchers, the future actors. Finally, through EPBRS and several other processes, Martin has systematically built the bridge between policy makers and researchers. The research landscape in Europe has to thank him deeply for his inputs and suggestions.

Martin: We wish you all the best in retirement and hope you will continue to support excellent biodiversity research.
